DC Comics dropped a bomb on convention goers at the San Diego Comic-Con International 2003 when they announced that New X-Men writer Grant Morrison has just been signed to a two-year exclusive contract with the company.
Morrison is rumored to be working on a Vertigo title with long-time artist pal Frank Quitely, as well as a regular DC Universe title. DC would offer no comment at this time as to which books or characters Morrison would be handling as an official announcement is expected later this year at WizardWorld Chicago. At present, there is no indication of how this will affect his current work for Marvel.
Marvel's solicitations for October 2003 (see 'MARVEL COMICS OCTOBER 2003 PREVIEWS') indicate that Morrison is still the writer as of New X-Men #148, and Morrison has previously made comments that issue #150 has already been written.
Marvel Editor-in-Chief Joe Quesada responded to the news in his "Cup of Joe" panel at the convention (see 'X-FAN LIVE @ SAN DIEGO COMIC-CON 2003 DAY 2 REPORT'), answering a question of what to do with New X-Men with "We'll see."
